Music based in tradition never stands still, always moving on and weaving in new ideas, such as plugging acoustic instruments into big amplifiers for impact, and sometimes through wacky effects pedals. We'll explore some such releases in this program, and notably, a new album from a group called BKO (yes, that's also Bamako's airport code) . They formed just as Mali went into a state of emergency, and you can really hear the grit in their music. Also, new percussion-based music from black Peruvians.
