Klaus Schulze (4 August 1947, Berlin – 26 April 2022) was a German electronic music pioneer, composer and musician.  Schulze initially made his mark as a drummer, playing with the group Psy Free, and only briefly with Tangerine Dream  and Ash Ra Tempel.  In 1971 Schulze started a solo career focusing on synthesisers and electronics,  with his percussion skills becoming an adjunct to his output.

He released dozens of albums in his lifetime, with many collaborations along the way, notably with Mike Shrieve (ex-Santana), Fumio Miyashita (The Far East Family Band), and in later years with Peter Namlook and Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance).

Today's program will focus on his output up to 1984.  I'll be taking the time to talk extensively about his innovative ideas, creative process and trademarks that were so influential to many who followed, often inviting real instruments to play alongside synthesised representations of them, allowing them to freely collide.
