Maija Kauhanen specialises in the Finnish kantele (zither), and its traditional playing technique - using a small wooden stick as a pick. Not only does she have a lovely expressive voice, but on her new album Menneet she plays a big range of percussion; kick drum, juju bean shaker, cymbals, wind bells, enamel pots & bowls, silver plates, metal muffin tins, trays and assorted kitchen utensils found at flea markets.
We'll also hear Maija playing with Mari Kalkun in the band Runorun, plus other new and recent releases from around Finland and Montreal.
