Soundscape from the Indonesian island of Roti
Morning Sounds, Circle Dance, Night Gekko, Story recounted by Johannes Mesak, Sea 8'00
(Troubled Grass and Crying Bamboo - The Music of Roti) [IAS independent]

Joining me in the studio this week is Christopher Basile, who I first met some years back in the ABC. Chris approached me some time later to help him assemble his field recordings for CD release by a non-profit Melbourne-based organisation called the Indonesian Arts Society, having released mostly books so far. I obliged, and may I declare that as Mastering Engineer, my income from this endeavour will remain purely aesthetic and non-monetary. As Chris pointed out at the launch on Friday March 27, it is most important is that the musicians get some benefit from any potential profits that sales may generate, and indeed his return visit to both islands last year was primarily to provide some advance payment to the artists, and to take photographs and video. Chris stayed throughout the program, talking freely about the music on offer.

More details on both the Roti and Lombok releases can found at https://havrillay.com/roti-lombok/ with video of the performers.
