I'm going to (almost entirely) put new releases on hold today for a mix of technology, traditional, acoustic and electronic; imaginary processions, exotic places, jungles, drums and voices. It was the late NY trumpetist Jon Hassell who coined the term 'Fourth World Music' to be something of that ilk; a dark hybrid of music both ancient and digital, composed and improvised, Eastern and Western. I'll be taking some inspiration from him for this music-packed program.
One notable new release included here is Hellbound Train, an ECM anthology of the work of guitarist/percussionist Steve Tibbetts; a really great collection.
