the sculptural art of Kartika...

Christopher Basile's Blog — 1 September, 2015
""

Here are some photos of sculptural works by Kartika that are displayed in her gallery. Actually, she does not particularly like calling it a ''gallery'' as she finds the word a bit impersonal and businesslike. She prefers ''omahe'' which means in javanese ''house'' or perhaps in this context ''place.'' So here are some sculptural works displayed in ''Omahe Kartika'' or "Kartika's Place"... They are all intense pieces to see and be around, and I hope the photos convey something of that. And when you hear Kartika explain the inspiration and motivation behind these pieces, then they really come to life. But I suppose you will just have to wait and see the documentary for that... ;)

The title says it all. I will just add regarding the "self portrait" -  Maybe it was because Kartika is getting a bit full of me pointing a camera at her all the time, but she announced that I should paint too, and I thought why not?

We are on a painting expedition moving between Borobudur and a hotel-restaurant called Puri Menoreh in Magelang. Borobudur because Kartika has never painted it before and she has long wanted to.
