The title says it all. I will just add regarding the "self portrait" - Maybe it was because Kartika is getting a bit full of me pointing a camera at her all the time, but she announced that I should paint too, and I thought why not? She gave me a big empty canvas, and I went for it.

We are on a painting expedition moving between Borobudur and a hotel-restaurant called Puri Menoreh in Magelang. Borobudur because Kartika has never painted it before and she has long wanted to.

Here is photo of me made by Mas Momi (Kartika's son-in-law, married to Lulu - a most capable and agreeable fellow) in front of the tugu in the centre of Yogya, with Hanuman, and an owl (a burung hantu = "ghostbird'') on my shoulder.

Here are some photos of sculptural works by Kartika that are displayed in her gallery. Actually, she does not particularly like calling it a ''gallery'' as she finds the word a bit impersonal and businesslike.

Sambal is ‘chili sauce’ in Indonesia . It comes in many varieties ranging from the sweet to the incredibly hot, and it is served with most meals.

I am in Central Java now, at Kartika’s house and gallery which is located about halfway between the city of Yogyakarta and the active volcano Merapi. This is my fourth day here, and we have been busy every day with filming.

That's a picture of me (on the left) at Candi Sukuh near Surakarta on my first trip to Java some 25 years ago. But while a picture communicates "a lot," some of you may want to know more, something along the lines of "What's up with this guy making a doco about Kartika Affandi?"
